Is it spirit speaking...or just me?
Treasured friends,
One of the most common questions I hear — and one I asked myself early on — is: “Am I just making this up?”
That moment of doubt, right after you receive a message or sense a presence, can be so disheartening. And if you’ve felt that inner critic speak up, please know you are not alone. Many of my students who have now commenced the Emerging Medium course in my Ignition online mediumship school came to me with this exact concern.
So let’s clear something up: your imagination isn’t a flaw — it’s a faculty. Spirit uses your mind, your senses, and yes, your imagination to communicate. Your job isn’t to shut your mind off, but to refine your ability to discern what is imagination inspired bySpirit. In other words, your mind becomes a tool for spirit.
Here are five structured ways to develop that discernment and start trusting the messages you receive:
Keep a Spirit Journal – After every practice or meditation, write down what you sensed. Over time, you’ll notice that certain impressions keep returning — names, images, or feelings. These repetitions are Spirit’s way of building trust.
Use the 3-Second Rule – Spirit communication often comes quickly, before the mind can interfere. If an impression comes to you in the first three seconds of asking, write it down. Don’t analyse it — record it.
Practice ‘Blind’ Exercises – In Ignition, we often use partner exercises where you tune into an object or photo you know nothing about. You’ll be amazed how often your “imagination” is spot-on when there’s no backstory influencing your mind.
Notice the Feeling Tone – Messages from Spirit usually have a distinct energetic quality — light, loving, emotionally charged. Your own thoughts tend to be more logical, predictable, or critical. Pay attention to how it feels, not just what is said.
Validate Often – Always aim to deliver evidence — names, details, significant memories — that can be confirmed. This is where your confidence grows. The more validations you receive, the quieter that voice of doubt becomes.
When spirit speaks...answer the call
In Ignition, I teach my students to honour both the mystical and the methodical. You don’t have to choose between Spirit and structure — you can have both. And when you do, your confidence soars.
You are not imagining it. You are unfolding. And Spirit is cheering you on every step of the way.
Affirmation for June:
Repeat this daily:
"My mind is a spiritual tool, my soul is a vehicle for spirit"
