How do I use tarot in my life?

Hello treasured friends,

This month I am guided to write about Tarot because it is exactly 40 years since I first bought my first tarot deck!  As a teen, I had no idea what they were and how to use them; I just knew I had to have them.

Since then I have used them daily as a self development tool and of course in my professional practice giving readings to my clients.

Tarot, with its rich history and mystical allure, (sometimes frightening depiction - think Hollywood here), has been used for centuries to connect with the unseen, offering glimpses into both our inner selves and the future. But how did Tarot come to be, why do we use it, and how can you, too, unlock its potential?

To answer these questions, lets first dive into a brief history of the origins of Tarot...

The origins of Tarot date back to the 15th century, primarily in Europe. Initially, Tarot cards were used as playing cards in Italy and France, known as "Tarocchi." However, it was not until the 18th century that Tarot evolved into a tool for divination, with the mystic and occult traditions embracing it as a means to tap into the spiritual realm.

Each card in the Tarot deck is rich in symbolism, representing archetypal energies that resonate across cultures and belief systems. The imagery found in the Tarot—whether from the Major Arcana, symbolizing significant life events, or the Minor Arcana, reflecting everyday experiences—invites us to explore the depths of our subconscious. Tarot reflects the universal truths of the human experience, which is why it continues to captivate us today.

Why use Tarot?

Tarot is not merely about predicting the future—it's about understanding the present moment, gaining clarity, and uncovering hidden influences that shape our lives. Many people seek out Tarot readings to gain insight into their relationships, career choices, or personal development. It acts as a mirror, revealing what lies beneath the surface of our thoughts, emotions, and circumstances.

As a medium, I often guide people in using Tarot to connect with their intuition. The cards don’t dictate your fate; rather, they offer guidance, inviting you to reflect and make empowered choices. When approached with respect and openness, Tarot can be a profound tool for personal growth, helping you align with your higher self and life's true path.

How does Tarot predict the future?

While Tarot cannot give exact answers about the future, it can highlight possible outcomes based on current energies. The cards act as signposts, showing you the potential paths you may walk. Each reading is unique, reflecting the dynamic interplay of free will and destiny. For instance, when interpreting a spread, we look at how the cards influence one another, uncovering patterns that indicate potential developments in your life.

I often tell those new to Tarot that it’s not just about what the cards say—it’s about how you feel when you see them. Tarot awakens your intuitive senses, sparking a connection to your own inner knowing. When I work with my clients, I encourage them to engage with the cards, asking questions, reflecting on the symbols, and considering the guidance offered.

How to Use Tarot in Your Own Life.

If you are curious about Tarot and want to explore it for yourself, here are a few steps to get started:

  1. Choose Your Deck: Select a Tarot deck that resonates with you. The artwork and symbolism should spark your curiosity and intuition.

  2. Set Your Intention: Before you draw a card or perform a spread, take a moment to center yourself and set a clear intention for your reading. Ask specific questions if you are seeking guidance on a particular issue.

  3. Familiarize Yourself with the Cards: Spend time with each card, reflecting on its imagery and meaning. Don’t rush the process. Tarot is as much about intuition as it is about knowledge.

  4. Start Simple: For beginners, try a simple one-card or three-card spread to gain insight into a situation. A three-card spread often explores the past, present, and future energies around a question.

  5. Reflect on Your Readings: Tarot is a reflective tool. After your reading, take time to meditate on the messages you receive. Keep a journal to track how the cards’ guidance aligns with your life over time.

Tarot as a Path to Self-Discovery

Remember, Tarot is not about fortune-telling in the way you might see in movies. It’s about understanding the patterns and energies that flow through your life, helping you make more informed decisions. Whether you are seeking clarity on a challenging situation or simply curious about the journey ahead, Tarot can be a valuable tool for personal insight.

As your guide in spiritual exploration, I encourage you to approach Tarot with curiosity and an open heart. Through it, you can deepen your understanding of the universe and your place within it. Tarot invites us to engage with the mysteries of life, to see beyond the physical and into the spiritual realm, where wisdom, guidance, and inspiration await.

Let the cards speak to you, and you may find yourself on a path of profound self-discovery.
